Trash/Recycling Services
BFI Peninsula is the contracted trash collector. Their web site is full of useful information. They also provide a weekly compost/mulch giveaway 4 p.m. every Thursday at 3rd Ave. & Anchor Rd. in San Mateo. Another helpful recycling site is the San Mateo County's RecycleWorks.

Please report graffiti problems to the San Mateo county graffiti abatement hotline at (650)

Streetlight problems
San Mateo County Public Works personnel maintain the fixtures which hang on both PG&E and County owned poles. The county is responsible for maintaining and servicing the fixtures while PG&E provides electricity and an electrical connection. PG&E is paid a fixed monthly fee for electrical energy to these fixtures. Residents in County Lighting Districts are annually assessed on their Property Tax a district fee by the County Tax Assessor.

County Lighting District Office:
The County Street Lighting District office is located at 555 County Center, 5th Floor, Redwood City, CA 94063. Regular business hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The District office phone number is 650-363-4100.

Reporting Street Light Outages:
Residents can leave a voice message on a 24-hour "Hotline" by dialing 650-599-1407. For prompt service, please leave the nearest address to the pole, or a number found on the pole about 6-feet from the ground. Additionally, leave your name and phone number on the "Hotline" so staff can notify you of any misunderstanding or repair delays. Reports of outages can also be emailed to jdangelo@co.sanmateo.ca.us.

Emergency Numbers List
We will be developing a reference list you can print and keep handy.

High-speed DSL providers
This is an informal list, but options we know of include SBC Globalnet, DSLextreme, Megapath, and Speakeasy. Not all areas within Emerald Hills are served, however, so you'll have to contact each provider to confirm service availability. Wireless options: if you have a view of the southern sky, DirecTV Satellite may also be an option, or if you can see Mt. Diablo, look into Sprint Fixed Wireless. If you can't get service at all, email me or join the "petition."
